The opportunity
Ellwood Atfield is delighted to be working with Taylor & Francis Group to hire a CEO Communications Manager to articulate the CEO’s strategic narrative and translate this into all forms of communications materials. This is an important and rewarding new role at a time of significant transformation for Taylor & Francis. The role holder will be responsible for all stages of CEO Communications – from strategy development through content creation and deployment to measuring performance and adjusting for optimisation. 

The ideal candidate will have strong journalistic instincts, honed in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to create compelling content that effectively engages diverse audiences. They will be able to demonstrate excellent stakeholder management skills with executive-level colleagues, thriving on the associated challenge of balancing multiple tasks with demanding deadlines and shifting priorities. 

Main responsibilities

  • Work closely and support the CEO in refining strategic messages relating to the direction and future of the company and support the dissemination of that information primarily internally, but also externally in cooperation with key stakeholders.
  • Develop a strategic communications plan for the CEO including annual calendar, key priorities and message construct and themes in alignment with overall organisation communication strategy.
  • Work closely with the CEO, the Chief of Staff, EAs, and members of the Corporate Communications team to manage CEO communications including online presence, drafting speeches, blogs, and other written communication pieces, creating video scripts, undertaking research, and creating speaking notes and briefing packs.
  • Act as the first point of contact for day-to-day CEO communications support.
  • Determine CEO communication effectiveness criteria and consistently drive results across teams to achieve the same.

Key skills and experience required 

  • Speechwriting specifically, writing generally, especially for the C-Suite.
  • Ability to quickly transform complex messages into an understandable, compelling narrative while ensuring consistency of tone and message.
  • Have exceptional writing skills across multiple forms, excellent presentation creation skills, and attention to detail.
  • Experience of writing for a global audience, particularly understanding the subtleties between British English and American English.
  • Project Coordination and Strategic Planning. 
  • Superb political, influencing and people management skills.
