Green Alliance, the think tank and charity, seeks a Communications Officer!

The Opportunity

Ellwood Atfield is delighted to partner with Green Alliance, the independent think tank and advocate committed to achieving ambitious political leadership for the environment, to recruit for a Communications Officer on a full time, permanent basis. This role pays £34,000 to £39,803 and is a fantastic opportunity for a creative individual looking to play a pivotal role in crafting, editing and producing impactful content able to influence senior decision makers to raise their environmental ambitions.

Green Alliance plays a central role in shaping the environmental agenda in the UK and is known for its cross party influence and the clarity of its insights. The high quality of the organisation’s work, experienced team and collaborative approach have enabled it to develop excellent relationships at the highest level with political parties, businesses, NGOs and academia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning, drafting and overseeing communication with a network of members, partners, cross-sector audiences and funders, including curating and compiling content for a new regular newsletter
  • Assisting in editing and producing high quality reports and other published materials to ensure impact
  • Writing both short and long form content to promote the organisation’s recommendations and messages
  • Supporting projects, outputs, and events with promotional strategies that help to achieve policy and political impact
  • Overseeing social media strategy to promote outputs and messages, maximising profile with target audiences.
  • Managing and promoting Green Alliance's podcast in line with strategic objectives, including reviewing its role in communications
  • Working with colleagues to ensure the CRM system is maximised to support Green Alliance's communication goals and to grow and build relationships with its network
  • Working with the rest of the communications team and senior staff to devise and execute the communications strategy
  • Working with staff to build compelling narratives and effective messages that resonate with Green Alliance’s target audiences
  • Participating in the communications team’s monthly and quarterly evaluations and reporting of results to staff
  • Overseeing the quarterly report to trustees and compiling the annual trustees’ report submitted to Companies House and the Charities Commission
  • Assisting and deputising as required with Green Alliance's events and press and media work
  • Maintaining an awareness of new communication developments.

Attitudes, Values and Skills Required

  • Previous experience in a broad communications role, including responsibility for central communications activities such as promotional activity and strategy
  • Excellent and proven copywriting, editing and proofing skills
  • Strong knowledge of digital communications and an understanding of the principles of good communications
  • Good general knowledge of UK politics
  • Ideally, an understanding of environmental policy and politics issues
  • Ideally, experience of managing online platforms, image, video and audio editing
  • Ideally, previous experience using Google Analytics.
