The Holocaust Educational Trust seek a new Director of Public Affairs to join the team!

The Organisation:
Ellwood Atfield are proud be partnering with the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET), to appoint a Director of Public Affairs to join their team.
The Holocaust Educational Trust are based in Westminster and were founded in 1988 during the passage of the War Crimes Act. The charity’s aim is to raise awareness and understanding in schools and amongst the wider public of the Holocaust and its relevance today. 

The Opportunity:
The Director of Public Affairs will be responsible for creating and implementing a robust Public Affairs strategy to ensure that the Holocaust Educational Trust and their cause remain high on the national agenda.
Holocaust Educational Trust are looking for an experienced senior leader with an outstanding track record of developing and delivering Public Affairs strategies to drive meaningful engagement. You will have significant experience of building successful, outcomes-based relationships and networks to enhance organisational reputation.

The successful applicant will be engaging with key stakeholders including Members of Parliament, Government, relevant NGOs and organisations and working with senior managers and external PR/communications agency to promote our work through print, broadcast, social and other media. Working alongside the Chief Executive, senior managers and external advisors, the postholder will oversee campaigns and develop and implement HET’s external affairs strategy.
Main responsibilities:

  • To create and implement an effective public affairs strategy which will enable the Holocaust Educational Trust to promote our cause at a local, national and international level
  • Build upon and develop new relationships with Members of Parliament, parliamentary researchers, civil servants, NGOs and other stakeholders key to the work of the Trust
  • Preparing briefings, speeches and submissions for the Trust’s team and Trustees,

Members of Parliament, Ministers and other public figures

  • Working alongside colleagues across the Trust to design and promote a programme of events to    Parliamentarians
  • Communication about the diverse and important work of the Holocaust Educational Trust and Holocaust related matters to stakeholders, including in press and social media
  • Promotion of the Trust’s programmes, initiatives and educational opportunities
  • The successful candidate will also act as a representative of the Trust at external events and meetings and as media spokesperson for the organisation, in agreement with the Chief Executive/Chief of Staff

 
Experience Required:

  • A highly motivated, strategic thinker who can respond quickly to a changing environment
  • A strong interest and commitment to HET’s purpose and values
  • A comprehensive understanding of the current political landscape and how governments allocate funding
  • Understanding of the power of public affairs and communications to promote and amplify organizational      messages and of the tools to counter hatred and misinformation online
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish credibility quickly with HET stakeholders

Benefits:

  • Flexible working – staff have the flexibility to work their contracted hours around THE   core hours of 10am – 4pm
  • Annual leave - 22 days annual leave each year plus bank holidays. This increases by

one day after 2 years continuous service and is capped at 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.

  • Office Closure days – Up to a maximum of 8 closure days per year.
