About the role

  • Reporting to the Director of Media and Communications, the ABPI’s Media and Communications Manager will work to maximise the impact media and social media programmes on behalf of the ABPI and their members. 
  • The Media and Communications Manager is an important role within the wider team, that will work on a range of communications priorities for the ABPI.  The role will also oversee the delivery of the ABPI’s social media activity across LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram.
  • The job holder will have proven experience in a range across a range of communications disciplines and would have particular experience in social and digital.
  • Responsibilities

Press Office

  • Support the Director of Media and Communications in developing and delivering the ABPI’s communications strategy and manage and maintain an effective, fit for purpose press office function for the ABPI.
  • Support on the day-to-day management of press office duties.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with key media contacts, including national print/broadcast journalists.
  • Proactively engage with journalists.
  • Respond to reactive media enquiries and external events.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours on call media service.

Social & Digital Media

  • Oversee the day to day management of the ABPI’s social and digital strategy.
  • Working with the Head of Digital Support and enhance the ABPI’s website content.
  • Lead on the social and digital media output for the ABPI.
  • Create engaging content for the ABPI social media channels.
  • Set and monitor KPI’s, assessing and monitoring performance and analytics across the channels.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships and represent ABPI at meetings with members.
  • Develop relationships with senior colleagues internally and within member organisations.

Presentation & Publications

  • Contribute to the ABPI’s web content to ensure it is engaging and accessible for media and other audiences.
  • Support the Director of Media and Communications to deliver digital first publications from across the ABPI policy areas.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience and capability to deliver the objectives and responsibilities of the media and Communications Manager role as described above. 
  • Experience in a media and communications environment, either in house or agency.
  • Experience of strategic management and monitoring digital and social media platforms.
  • Proven experience of strategic media relations, proactive and reactive media relations and crisis communications.
  • Proven experience of identifying and placing stories in national, regional trade media as well as via social media channels, both organic and paid.
  • Proven experience in managing social and digital channels.
