
Exciting opportunity to work with the BH&HPA as a Policy Manager
The opportunity
Ellwood Atfield is delighted to partner with the British Holiday & Home Parks Association (BH&HPA). This is an excellent opportunity to join as their Policy Manager. The Policy Manager will help manage and coordinate the Association’s policy team and work towards meeting the objectives of the Association by representing the interests of the industry to governments and decision makers as well as providing policy guidance to BH&HPA members.
Main responsibilities
- To develop and drive BH&HPA’s policy work and political engagement (Government and Parliament), monitor political outputs, map stakeholders, deliver events, provide briefings, and support meetings.
- To network, build and maintain effective partnerships between organisations related to and those with influence on industry matters. Manage and record such contacts across the team.
- To become expert in areas of government and regulatory policy as they relate to the industry, in order to provide advice to members and lobby on their behalf as well as induct and train team members.
- To field regular member enquiries through the membership advice line.
- To prepare and present the industry's case through submissions, speeches, and articles, drawing on the expertise of the Association's retained advisers and the experience of industry members.
- To lead in raising the profile of the industry amongst all audiences and in liaison with sponsoring Government Departments.
- To communicate (often technical) issues to the Association's members through a variety of channels, e.g., over the telephone, email, journal articles on the BH&HPA website, and at conferences and events.
- To produce responses to Government consultations.
- To take up seats on established forums as the industry’s representative.
- To act as secretary to internal and external committees as required: agenda, briefing notes, memoranda, and minutes.
- To travel nationally to affect the requirements of the appointment.
Key skills and experience required
- Experience working in a policy, political or broader communications role.
- Experience of influencing decision/policy makers.
- Excellent knowledge of the UK political landscape including experience of parliamentary processes and policy making.
- A strong knowledge of current affairs and political/social/economic developments.
- Excellent written and spoken communications with the ability to write across a range of styles.
- Ability to draft internal and external policy briefings with outstanding attention to detail and editing skills.
- Driving license essential, to visit members and events in remote and rural locations.
