The Organisation
The Homecare Association is the professional association for homecare providers, they ensure that all of us can live well at home and flourish within our communities.

Homecare services support almost one million older and disabled people across the UK each year, to continue living in their own homes – the preference for most people.

The Role
They are looking for a new Policy Specialist – External Affairs to support the Policy, Practice and Innovation Director to create champions for the Association’s work in the media, Westminster and Whitehall, helping to grow our reputation and profile. This exciting and varied role will establish regular contact with politicians, political advisers and other key stakeholders, acting as an authoritative point of contact for regional and national media, drafting press releases and statements and supporting and developing policy-related social media content. You will be keen to engage with and inspire a range of stakeholders including homecare providers, Government officials, politicians, journalists, statutory regulators and other key stakeholders. In return we offer the opportunity for you to use your expertise and passion to help improve the lives of people drawing on services and those who care for and support them. The policy team works across a wide variety of topics of importance to our members, including workforce, financial sustainability, public awareness, regulation, quality, innovation, and integration, to support and promote provision of homecare.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintaining a strong understanding of the external environment by monitoring the media, policy and political agenda to identify themes which have an impact (actual or potential) on homecare providers.
  • Identifying opportunities to use political and policy-making processes to promote the work of the Homecare Association to stakeholders, government, Parliament and other public affairs audiences.
  • Developing media messages and draft press releases, statements, letters and articles.
  • Monitoring the Homecare Association’s media coverage daily, maintaining press cuttings records and producing internal PR data and insight reports.
  • Undertaking research into emerging policy issues for homecare and the wider social care sector and prepare briefings for on key issues, including submissions to Parliamentary inquiries.

Skills, knowledge and experience required, include:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Parliamentary processes and procedures
  • Experience in working in public affairs, media and/or campaigns with a keen interest in policy, legislation, regulation and practice.
  • Ability to develop and manage relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Clear and confident communication skills, including excellent spoken and written English
