An exciting opportunity to work for the Vegan Society as Public Affairs and Policy Manager!

The Opportunity

Ellwood Atfield is delighted to have partnered with the Vegan Society, the oldest vegan organisation in the world, to recruit for a Public Affairs and Policy Manager on a full-time, permanent basis. This role pays £38,000 to £42,000 and offers a fantastic opportunity for those with passionate about the health, environmental, and ethical benefits of veganism to advocate for this within their campaigns, policy and research (CPR) department.

The Public Affairs and Policy Manager will drive the organisation's public affairs and policy work, addressing key policy areas for TVS such as food, environment, rights of humans and other animals, education, and health, operating within the political landscape. The post-holder will be responsible for identifying and seizing opportunities to influence across the UK and EU parliaments, central and local governments, and devolved administrations on key issues. This is in addition to growing a strong base of parliamentary advocates and other stakeholders through a strategic engagement programme, developing and leading workstreams to speak to political priorities and engage relevant groups. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and delivering political campaigns on a range of issues, including on public sector institutions, food labelling, agricultural policy, and sustainability
  • Devising public affairs strategies and a strategic political stakeholder engagement programme, managing and strengthening relationships with external partners and stakeholders including other relevant NGOs
  • Identifying opportunities to influence MPs and Ministers on key issues across the UK and EU parliaments, devolved administrations, and local government
  • Growing the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Vegetarianism and Veganism
  • Developing policy on relevant issues and policy materials including briefings, consultation responses, engagement letters, invites, op-eds, articles, and blogs
  • Attending events, delivering presentations, and writing for publications
  • Working closely with the campaigns and communications teams
  • Maintaining programme schedules and providing progress reports for senior management
  • Supporting the Head of Campaigns, Policy and Research to improve processes, address strategic objectives, and update the strategy
  • Line management of the Policy Advisor

Attitudes, Values, and Skills Required

  • A passion for, and adherance to, a vegan diet and lifestyle
  • A proven track record as a public affairs and/or policy professional
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Strong knowledge of the political landscape
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous experience line managing or leading a team or project
