The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) exists to make the UK the best place in the world to research, develop and use new medicines. Our members discover the medicines of the future and supply cutting edge treatments today that improve and save the lives of millions of people now. We do all of this in partnership with Government and the NHS so that patients get new treatments faster and the NHS can plan what it spends.

The Opportunity

The ABPI have recently gone through a restructure and are now growing their Government Affairs function. As the Public Affairs Manager, you will report into the Head of Government Affairs and will lead the Public Affairs program on Science Policy, whilst working closely with the Chief Scientific Officer.  This role will lead on public affairs across all science policy objectives including the following:  

  • Health data
  • Clinical trials and medicine discovery
  • Attractiveness for the UK research environment
  • Skills

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide political advice and delivery on all policy programs whilst supporting the Chief Scientific Officer
  • Provide political intelligence for the ABPI innovation board
  • To build strong and robust relationships with key stakeholders in science and research bodies including Royal Colleges

Key Skills and Experience Required

  • Passion for the making the UK the best place in the world for research and innovation
  • Extensive experience in proactive public affairs and policy work around complex issues
  • Excellent knowledge of Westminster, Whitehall and the political environment
  • Proven track record of engagement and influencing high profile organisations
  • Excellent relationship building and influencing skills: internally, with members and various stakeholders
  • Credibility with senior peers and stakeholders that such a role requires and the ability to work in a collaborative fashion
