The Organisation
Ellwood Atfield is delighted to be partnered with a membership organisation for higher education institutions. The organisation is the collective voice for over 140 institutions across the UK and aims to support these institutions to achieve their full potential on a local, national and global scale.

The Opportunity
The organisation is currently looking to make strategic additions to their news and media team. The role of Publicity Adviser plays a fundamental part in engaging with national press on a daily basis, as the organisation look to diversify coverage by with consumer and trade press. This is ideal for a confident self-starter with a track record in public relations,  establishing effective partnerships with journalists. Excellent judgement on news, effective time management and working calmly under pressure are all key skills for this position.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Identifying proactive opportunities for print, broadcast, consumer and sector media.
  • Drafting and producing proactive case studies, opinion pieces, open letters, articles, and other placed content on behalf of UUK’s senior spokespeople.
  • Supporting campaigns by offering media relations advice and outputs for each campaign, including liaison with external PR agencies.
  • Create relationships with national newsdesks, national and broadcast consumer affairs media, consumer publications, sector media and use these relationships to secure positive coverage
  • Regularly contribute to the social media strategy and content plan, helping ensure alignment of output across digital channels. Develop a truly joint planning approach to traditional and social media which ensures maximum impact.
  • Oversee online posts and help develop engaging content plans for the Media Assistant
  • Lead the communications planning on programme areas and act as the media team representative on multiple other programmes

Experience Required:

  • Established experience working within journalism or media relations
  • Excellent judgement on UK news media
  • Able to manage stakeholders and build effective relationships with media outlets
