As the Regional External Affairs Manager for the North West and West Midlands, you will be responsible for managing all external affairs relating to projects and operations in the area.
You will work on the company’s largest major infrastructure project – connecting NuGen’s proposed nuclear power station at Moorside in Cumbria.
You will proactively maximise opportunities to increase National Grid’s profile, working closely with internal and external stakeholders. You will support the formation of the national strategic message, implementing company-wide tools and systems that focus on the delivery of best practice for customer and stakeholder engagement.

About the role:
- Lead the development and implementation of an integrated regional communications strategy for construction projects in the North West and West Midlands region.
- Lead the co-ordination of messaging and engagement opportunities with key external stakeholder groups, consenting authorities, local and central government, MPs and media in relation to construction projects being carried out in the region.
- Support project teams and Corporate Affairs in monitoring and evaluating performance, ensuring consistency of approach and driving value for money.
- Work closely with Corporate Affairs and identify opportunities to engage and build relationships with high level political stakeholders and other external bodies.
- Manage high level executive complaints in relation to construction projects.
- Work with the Media Team and others, supporting the management of media interaction associated with Construction projects in a given region.
- Spokesperson for media interviews if required.
- You will have experience of working in an external facing role and delivering, or managing delivery of, agreed and consistent messages. This will likely be gained from roles in journalism, working for a politician and/ or working for an agency or in-house press office or public affairs role – a variety of experience is valued.
- Managing projects or initiatives which demonstrate an ability to multi task and manage competing workloads.
- Experience of communicating for large infrastructure projects (desirable);
- Knowledge of the energy/infrastructure sector (desirable).
- Educated to degree level, ideally with a professional qualification or masters in a relevant subject area. This could be in communications, but would be equally beneficial in a business, humanities or engineering discipline.
