The Organisation:
Ellwood Atfield is delighted to be partnering with Country Land and Business Association (CLA). The CLA is a membership organisation that exists to champion and protect rural businesses across Engand and Wales.  It’s 28,000 members range from small family farms to large historic estates, covering over 250 different types of business. 

The Opportunity:
The CLA is looking for a driven and passionate communications professional to join their team as Senior Communications Manager. This is a highly engaging and proactive position, suitable for communications professionals who enjoy delivering interesting and informative stories. Working closely with a PR agency, the successful candidate will look to use their project management and media relations skills to engage with a range of stakeholders and identify opportunities to promote the CLA across national and trade channels.
Every day will be different as you promote CLA campaigns and respond to breaking news.  One moment you might be working on issues to do with renewable energy , tourism or natural habitat restoration, the next you might be trying to understand the latest change to farming or planning policy - all with a central mission of unlocking the economic, environmental and social potential of the countryside.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Liaise on a day-to-day basis with the CLA’s PR agency to deliver strategic goals
  • React to breaking news and events, whilst also planning robust and informative proactive content including statements, opinion editorials etc
  • Liaise with journalists and producers to raise the profile of the organisation
  • Provide strategic PR support for specific issues and campaigns
  • Provide pro-active PR advice and expertise to the Officers and Policy team as directed by the Director of External of Affairs
  • Coordinate messaging with regional communications teams
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to implement the External Affairs strategy as a whole.

Experience Required:

  • Effective and impactful writing style
  • Demonstrable ability to build strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Experience working in a PR or media relations position and the ability to demonstrate an eye for spotting opportunities for media engagement
  • Confident in managing external agencies and proactive in profile-raising the organisation
  • An interest in rural issues, including unlocking the economic, environmental and social potential of the countryside
