The Confederation of Passenger Transport is seeking a Senior Policy Adviser to join their team

The Organisation
Through their work in representing over 1,000 bus and coach operators in the UK, the Confederation of Passenger Transport is the leading voice for bus and coach operators across the country. It engages with a range of stakeholders, particularly across government, including the Department for Transport, HM Treasury and No. 10, and represents a vast range of companies from the likes of multi-national companies such as Stagecoach, National Express, Arriva, Go Ahead Group and FirstGroup through to small, family run bus and coach businesses.

The Opportunity
Ellwood Atfield is delighted to be partnering with CPT to find an experienced Senior Policy Adviser. This exciting role will give you the opportunity to engage on a range of pressing policy issues, including how the industry can help deliver key government targets around net zero, levelling up and economic growth.  You will help the industry work with government to ensure delivery of the National Bus Strategy, liaising with key government departments including the Department for Transport and the Department for Levelling up, Housing and Communities.

Main Responsibilities

  • Developing policy papers and briefings to effectively influence national and regional decision makers
  • Liaising closely with CPT’s membership to gather views and opinions to support policy strategies and priorities
  • Responsible for consultation responses and select committee submissions
  • Providing thorough policy advice to internal stakeholders, including CPT regional managers and members
  • Deputise for the Head of Policy when required

Key Skills Required

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with experience in writing reports, delivering presentations and preparing briefings
  • Comfortable working to tight deadlines
  • Ability to see the bigger picture and think about policy strategically
  • Previous experience navigating policy issues and influencing government
  • Good knowledge of government policy and decision-making processes and the wider stakeholder landscape
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
