The opportunity
The Salters’ Company is seeking a Communications Lead to develop and deliver an integrated communications strategy that unites its diverse activities and enhances its profile across education, philanthropy, and civic engagement.
This is a hands-on strategic role, ideal for an experienced communications professional who enjoys combining strategic planning with creative delivery. Reporting to the Chief Executive (Clerk), you will work closely with colleagues across the Company, the Salters’ Institute, and the Charitable Foundation to tell a coherent and compelling story about the organisation’s work and impact.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement a clear, measurable communications strategy and plan for the Company and its associated charities.
- Act as brand guardian, ensuring consistency of tone, style, and message across all channels.
- Shape and refine the Salters’ Company’s narrative, brand identity, and core messaging.
- Create and oversee engaging content across digital platforms, publications, events, and member communications.
- Collaborate across departments to align internal and external communications.
- Raise the profile of the Salters’ Institute’s education programmes and the Salters’ Charitable Foundation’s philanthropic work.
- Support member engagement by strengthening internal communications and fostering a sense of community and pride.
- Manage budgets and external suppliers as required and monitor the effectiveness of communication activities.
Requirements include:
- Extensive senior-level communications experience, ideally including organisation-wide strategy and delivery.
- A strong track record in corporate communications, content creation, and digital engagement.
- Excellent storytelling, writing, and presentation skills.
- The ability to influence senior stakeholders and work collaboratively across functions.
- A strategic mindset combined with the flexibility to deliver hands-on work.
- Experience within charities, membership organisations, or education-focused institutions(desirable).
- An appreciation for heritage, tradition, and the unique context of the City of London’s Livery movement.
