Director General
The Opportunity

CPI is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual for the position of Director General, who will provide strategic leadership and oversight for the confederation. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing the mission and vision of the organisation while ensuring operational excellence and fostering a positive culture. As the Director General, you will work closely with members, senior management team, and key stakeholders to develop and execute long-term strategies that drive member growth and successful advocacy. This role requires a strong leader with the ability to inspire and motivate a team, navigate complex challenges, and make informed decisions. With a deep understanding of the industry landscape and a commitment to excellence, the Director General will enhance the CPI’s reputation and influence with Government, media, stakeholders, and partners.
The ideal candidate will possess not only exceptional management and communication skills but also a proven track record of achieving measurable results in a leadership role. Furthermore, CPI are looking for an individual who can effectively represent the organisation to external partners and the community, ensuring that CPI’s objectives align with the needs of its stakeholders while fostering collaboration and engagement.
Some key responsibilities include:
- Provide leadership and strategic direction to the organisation.
- Develop and implement long-term goals, strategies, and policies.
- Devise and implement an effective public affairs strategy to support the policy and regulatory agendas affecting CPI members
- Oversee budget preparation and ensure financial sustainability and health.
- Represent the organisation at public events, conferences, and with key stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Member groups and committees to define and articulate the organisation's mission and vision.
- Encourage and facilitate professional development and growth within the organisation.
- Monitor industry trends and assess opportunities for innovation and change.
Requirements include:
- Gravitas, and confidence to represent CPI externally at the highest levels of Government and with media.
- A track record of successfully influencing policy development with Government departments.
- Proven experience in a senior management role, ideally as a leader or equivalent within a trade body or membership organisation.
- Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate teams.
- Track record of developing and implementing successful strategic initiatives.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or related field.
