A FTSE-listed insurance company seeks a Director of Government Relations to take up an international remit
The opportunity
Our client, an international, FTSE-listed insurance company, has created a new role for a Director of US, EU and International Government Relations. This will be a key role within the global Government Relations team, with a pivotal focus on identifying and mapping key government stakeholders in the US and EU. It will also lead on the development and execution of strategies to foster strong relationships with these stakeholders, ensuring effective engagement and advocacy.
Main responsibilities
- Identify and map key US and EU government stakeholders relevant to the group’s global operations
- Develop and execute relevant strategies to cultivate close relations and interactions with identified stakeholders
- Monitor, track and report policy and regulatory developments arising from US and EU policy and political environments; analyse potential impacts and provide recommendation of actions, ensuring that the business is positioned to capture opportunities, understanding and able to mitigate risks
- Draft and contribute to briefing documents, position papers and other relevant content for distribution and publication (e.g. responses to public consultations); actively engage with government organisations, industry bodies and regulators to build a sphere of influence for effective advocacy
- Work with other members of Government Relations team to coordinate and implement stakeholder engagement activities in the US and EU, including bilateral meetings and around key international meetings.
Key skills and experience required
- Extensive leadership experience in financial services, government, consultancy or other relevant fields, delivering commercial outcomes through regulatory/policy initiatives
- Strong leadership skills and capabilities in managing diverse relationships; a wide network of contacts
- A fast learner with the willingness to immerse themselves in a wide range of subjects, including financial markets, regulation, technology, economics, US politics and regulations, and sector specific activity
- A motivated self-starter, with creative and strategic thinking as well as excellent judgement, integrity, professionalism and positivity
- Exposure to financial services regulators and government agencies of interest beneficial.
PLEASE NOTE: you must be able to travel frequently as part of this role. Travel is expected to occur on an ad-hoc basis, with potential for additional trips as required by business needs.
