The Opportunity

The opportunity:

Representing 300 firms, UK Finance is a centre of trust, expertise and collaboration at the heart of financial services, championing a thriving sector and building a better society.

The Director, International Affairs will lead, develop and manage UK Finance’s International Affairs strategy and have oversight of our foreign banking / international banking forum.

Some key responsibilities are:

  • Lead and manage the International Affairs team, ensuring support for, and alignment with, UK Finance’s strategic goals.
  • Develop and implement an annual international strategy to enhance the UK financial services sector’s international competitiveness and influence.
  • Ensure UK Finance’s annual international strategy reflects the key objectives of the organisation and its members; including how the organisation is best placed to advocate internationally.
  • Develop and manage UK Finance’s newly formed 'International Affairs Committee’.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, executive team, and Chair on international issues, providing actionable insights and recommendations.

Requirements include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Proven ability to develop and execute strategies that drive organisational goals.
  • People Management: Experience in leading, motivating, and developing high-performing teams.
  • Diplomacy and Advocacy: Experience in negotiation, influencing, and advocacy.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Strong relationship-building skills with senior executives, policymakers, and regulators.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to assess complex global trends and translate them into actionable insights.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex issues to diverse audiences.
  • International Expertise: In-depth understanding of global financial services markets, regulatory frameworks, and geopolitical issues.
  • Results-Oriented: Demonstrated track record of delivering measurable outcomes in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Positive Ambassadorship: Ability to represent UK Finance with professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm.
  • Adaptability: Resilience and flexibility to manage multiple priorities in a changing environment.
