The Opportunity

The organisation

A respected UK membership body at the heart of a dynamic industrial services ecosystem. The organisation represents companies of all sizes nationwide and is focused on delivering measurable value to members through insight, training, events, and a strong voice with stakeholders.

The opportunity

This newly created, senior role will be pivotal to the organisation’s next phase of growth. Reporting to the CEO, you will set and execute a commercial strategy that accelerates member acquisition and retention while expanding high-value products and services—particularly a growing professional training portfolio. You’ll combine strategy with hands-on delivery, working collaboratively across communications, public affairs, operations, events, marketing, finance and administration to ensure a consistently excellent member experience.

Main responsibilities

  • Membership growth: Design and deliver a data-led plan that sets clear targets and deploys creative, brand-aligned tactics to attract and retain members across the UK & Ireland.
  • Training leadership: Own the commercial development of online and in-person courses, ensuring market relevance, measurable impact, and ambitious revenue growth.
  • Revenue generation: Identify and secure new income streams across membership, advertising (digital and print), training, and event packages for exhibitors, sponsors and delegates.
  • Member engagement & retention: Build strong relationships with full and associate members, ensuring they feel valued and can easily access services and benefits. Leverage CRM insights to drive targeted outreach.
  • Team leadership: Lead and inspire a small sales team (circa 2–4), setting objectives, monitoring KPIs (pipeline, training sales, satisfaction), and supporting professional development and wellbeing.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Partner closely with colleagues in communications, public affairs and operations to align sales, marketing and delivery for a seamless member experience.

Key skills and experience

  • Proven track record of meeting and exceeding B2B sales targets—ideally within a membership body, professional institute or trade association—while maintaining excellent service quality
  • Demonstrable success developing and selling training products (on-demand e-learning and taught courses leading to recognised qualifications)
  • Strong relationship-builder with senior stakeholders; able to influence and secure long-term partnerships
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with excellent attention to detail and organisation
  • Commercial acumen to create, price and package new products and services aligned to member needs
