The opportunity
Youth Sport Trust are looking for a Media Relations Officer on a permanent basis. As a Media Relations Officer, you will create a programme of media and PR activity and play a vital role in supporting the charity’s strategic Marketing and Communication objectives.
You will promote key media messages, raising brand awareness and demonstrating the important work of YST of building a happier, more resilient UK child population. This involves, cultivating strong ties with journalists and relevant media outlets, whilst overseeing a clear engagement plan for YST’s Ambassador and School Sport Champion networks. As a Media Relations Officer, you will also manage the YST press office, handle media inquiries and support in the development of reputation building and crisis communications planning. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Media Officer looking to build on their career with an interest in sport or children’s development.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee engagement with national and regional media stakeholders including building relationships directly with journalists.
- Identify and develop positive media case studies the highlight the impact of the work of the YST.
- Work with the Marketing and Communications team to promote case studies through relevant channels including media, website, social and relationship comms.
- Act as YST’s main point of contact for media/PR requests and queries.
- Lead the evaluation reports to inform internal colleagues of media coverage obtained.
- Develop and oversee press releases, statements, briefings, launch events, interview opportunities and placed articles.
- Monitor the success of the Media strategy and lead appropriate actions aligned to YST’s strategic plan.
- Research the most effective media monitoring tools, to ensure tracking, compliance and understanding of YST’s Media and PR strategy.
- Develop and maintain a bank of media materials, including case studies, spokespeople, and pre-agreed lines and messaging to facilitate rapid responses.
Essential Criteria
- Proven PR experience in a press office role with national scope.
- Strong sense of news value and ability to work reactively and proactively with a wide range of media.
- Ability to develop strong ties with relevant national and specialist journalists.
- Experience of developing detailed evaluation and analysis reports.
- Experience and knowledge of how media strategies fit into a bigger corporate plan.
- Ability to work with the press and publicity teams within Youth Sport Trust’s government and corporate partners.
