Honorary Treasurer and Non-Executive Director
The Opportunity

About the organisation:
Logistics UK is one of the largest trade associations in the country, representing the logistics industry to government and regulators at home and abroad, and providing a range of business services to its members. It serves around 21,000 members, including around 70 of the FTSE 100, ranging from large corporates, major retailers and logistics service providers to SMEs, local authorities and the emergency services. Its members operate over one million vans and more than 200,000 heavy goods vehicles, around half of the UK total, and consign more than 90% of freight moved by rail. Owned and governed by its members, Logistics UK is overseen by a Board of senior industry figures focused on strategy, governance and the performance of the executive team.
The opportunity:
Following the planned retirement of the current Treasurer, Logistics UK is appointing a new Honorary Treasurer to join its Board as a Non-Executive Director. The role chairs both the Audit & Risk Committee and the Budget Committee, giving a qualified finance leader direct responsibility for the financial oversight, risk and governance of an association with a major influence on the UK's logistics industry.
Main responsibilities:
- Chair the Audit & Risk Committee, agreeing its annual work programme and reporting its conclusions and recommendations to the Board.
- Chair the Budget Committee, overseeing the budgeting process and cash flows, and working with the Finance Director ahead of recommendations to the Board.
- Provide independent challenge and assurance on financial stewardship, sustainability and resource allocation, drawing on financial statements, budgets, forecasts and key performance indicators.
- Assess and monitor the organisation's risk profile, including financial and reputational risk, and oversee the effectiveness of the risk management framework and internal controls.
- Oversee the relationship with the external auditors, review audit findings and monitor management's response to audit recommendations.
- Work with the executive team and fellow Board members to ensure long-term financial sustainability informs strategic decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, accounting standards and governance standards, and review and improve key financial governance policies.
Key skills and experience required:
- A professional accounting qualification, such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent.
- Board-level Finance Director experience, with a strong understanding of business operations, finance and corporate strategy.
- A strong understanding of audit, risk management, internal control and corporate governance practice.
- The ability to offer support during transactions, including acquisitions and investment finance plans.
- Experience of managing defined benefit pension schemes is preferable.
- Sound judgement, high ethical standards and the ability to give independent, objective advice, with the time to chair two Board committees.
