The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and ambitious Interim Policy and Public Affairs Manager to lead a high-profile programme of policy development and influencing focused on protecting vulnerable customers' financial security. This role offers the chance to shape national policy and legislative reform at a critical time, leading work on family law reform, financial services policy and consumer protection. You will develop evidence-based policy positions, influence decision-makers across government, Parliament, regulators and industry, and work with people with lived experience to deliver meaningful systemic change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of evidence-based policy positions, consultation responses and policy recommendations on strategic priorities.
  • Manage stakeholder engagement across the legal, financial services and social care sectors to build consensus and influence policy reform.
  • Develop and deliver public affairs strategies to influence government, Parliament, regulators and industry stakeholders.
  • Draft high-quality consultation responses, policy papers, parliamentary briefings and other influencing materials.
  • Organise and facilitate stakeholder roundtables, parliamentary events and ministerial engagement.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders across government departments, regulators, professional bodies, financial services organisations and partner organisations.
  • Ensure the voices and experiences of survivors are embedded throughout policy development and influencing activity.
  • Monitor policy, legislative and regulatory developments, identifying opportunities to advance organisational priorities.
  • Work collaboratively with communications colleagues to support external influencing campaigns and policy launches.
  • Provide policy advice to senior leadership and contribute to organisational planning and strategy.
  • Represent the organisation externally at meetings, conferences and events.

Key Requirements

  • Significant experience in policy development and public affairs, ideally in a complex stakeholder environment.
  • Proven experience delivering successful influencing campaigns leading to policy, legislative or regulatory change.
  • Experience writing high-quality consultation responses, policy papers and evidence-based recommendations.
  • Experience engaging and influencing senior stakeholders, including government ministers, officials, parliamentarians, regulators and industry leaders.
  • Strong understanding of UK government, parliamentary and policy-making processes.
  • Knowledge of family law and/or financial services and consumer policy.
  • Understanding of domestic abuse, and/or work with vulnerable customers.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to translate complex issues into clear, practical policy solutions.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including drafting persuasive policy and briefing materials.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, remote working environment.
