The opportunity
The organisation is looking for a Policy Manager to join the Commercial Finance team at a significant moment for the sector with an unprecedented focus on business growth and access to finance. The role represents an exciting opportunity to influence the future regulatory frameworks around business lending and shape the narrative around high profile issues such as Covid loan schemes.
As a Policy Manager, you will play a pivotal role in delivering against the organisation’s policy priorities in collaboration with its members - ranging from the largest UK retail banks to smaller and specialist lenders, as well as non-bank alternative lenders.
Key Responsibilities
- Acting as subject matter expert on specific areas of policy such as the regulation of SME finance and government loan schemes.
- Providing expertise in areas including prudential regulation, smart data, restructuring and insolvency, economic crime and digital assets.
- Supporting the running of key member groups, including active participation at such meetings and deputising for senior colleagues.
- Supporting relationship management with members, associate members and key stakeholders (government departments, British Business Bank, Financial Conduct Authority, business groups and others).
- Preparing consultation responses and other advocacy, briefings, newsletter updates, blogs and presentations.
- Analysing data and economic insights to inform advocacy and provide actionable insights.
- Horizon scanning of developments such as matters that could impact Commercial Finance, identifying the relevance for members and proactively considering action.
Key Skills
- Proven experience in financial services or a related sector, a trade body/member organisation, professional services or government/civil service/regulator.
- Experience of a relevant regulatory regime such as consumer credit or a proven ability to quickly gain proficiency in complex regulation.
- Strong attention to detail with an ability to communicate complex information in an accessible manner to a broad audience.
- Ability to identify key political developments and analyse their impact on members, whilst working in tandem with members to create appropriate policy responses.
- Strong research skills, ensuring policy proposals are supported by credible evidence.
