The Opportunity

The organisation

An important mid-sized trade association representing hundreds of members to government and relevant stakeholders. The membership consists of the very largest businesses in the sector and the smallest; combined they contribute £billions to the UK economy and perform a vital role within the infrastructure sector.

         

The opportunity

This is a high-profile role requiring government advocacy, entrepreneurial flair, diplomacy and tact. The role will suit someone who is able to demonstrate a natural ability to lead with authority and commerciality. The new CEO will be accountable for implementing the corporate plan, developing future strategy, further building the Association’s brand, influencing government, and producing tangible outcomes for the members.

Over the past few years, the Association has experienced significant change. Members are now seeking a leader who can foster stability and guide the association back to the high standing it has previously achieved.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the Association, with the Board and its Chair, developing and delivering its vision and strategy as well as meeting the fiduciary responsibilities of the role.
  • Operate entrepreneurially growing new income streams whilst ensuring the long-term financial stability of the association. Drive membership growth, sponsorship and affiliation opportunities.
  • Raise the profile of this high growth sector – building recognition, visibility, and influential with cross sector bodies and groups.
  • Provide a strong voice for the industry in promoting the Association members’ interests in policy formation with national, devolved, regional and local governments.
  • Set direction for the team, creating a proactive, outward facing, members’ first team culture and delivering on the annual business plans.

Requirements include:

  • Experienced, engaging and inspirational membership leader with demonstrable record of success.
  • Experience of UK Government advocacy in national and devolved governments and proven ability to build strategic relationships with stakeholders and clients/members.  
  • Experience of leading a small business/association, including setting strategic direction, transformation and change management, team building and management of budgets.
  • Ability to act entrepreneurially to successfully deliver increased revenue and prudent management of operational costs to benefit a not-for-profit or membership organisation.
