The Opportunity

The role

The Vegan Society is the world’s oldest and most influential vegan organisation, with a history of impact stretching back to 1944 they exist to make veganism mainstream, accessible and desirable. Their work spans advocacy, policy, education and commercial partnerships – all with the aim of creating a kinder, more sustainable world.

They are now seeking an experienced Head of Commercial Operations to join their Senior Leadership Team. This is a pivotal leadership role, reporting to the CEO and responsible for all income-generating activity, including their iconic Vegan Trademark, product ranges, promotional products and merchandise. The post holder will oversee a team of around 30 staff through four direct reports, manage a budget and co-own the commercial strategy to ensure financial targets are met and brand integrity maintained.

The role

You will:

  • Provide commercial leadership across all income-generating services, ensuring high-quality client journeys and efficient delivery.
  • Oversee the financial, cost and logistics modelling of all products and services, taking full P&L accountability.
  • Work closely with the Head of Innovation and Development in identifying and capitalising on opportunities to achieve ambitious growth targets.
  • Work closely with Head of Operations on the continuous improvements of technological systems and operational processes in line with wider business activities.
  • Lead, coach and develop four managers to embed a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Lead on annual reviews, presenting performance updates and strategic proposals to senior stakeholders.
  • Represent The Vegan Society externally, maintaining ethical standards, regulatory compliance and brand reputation in UK and international markets.

About you

We are looking for a commercially astute senior leader who can hit the ground running and provide stability and clear direction. You will bring:

  • Significant experience in senior operational leadership within a B2B commercial or service-based environment, ideally managing large budgets and teams.
  • Proven success in streamlining operations, driving income growth and managing cross-functional managers.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, with demonstrable experience of P&L accountability.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to build relationships and act with tact and diplomacy.

Whilst experience of working in a mission-led organisation would be advantageous it is not essential, but motivation by cause and alignment with the values of The Vegan Society is essential.
