The Opportunity:

Ellwood Atfield are proud to be partnering with a reputable charity in the consumer sector. The charity work with a range of external stakeholders – including manufacturers, industry leaders, regulators and government – to ensure high standards for products and services.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the organisation as a Policy and Legislative Affairs Advisor. In this post, you will play a vital role in fostering an integrated approach between the Policy and Public Affairs team and the Technical team, ensuring technical expertise is successfully translated into a clear, strategic policy ask.

You will also support in the creation of policies that address a wide array of consumer concerns – from regulation of products sold online to improving housing standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • To review Government and Parliamentary legislation (including draft legislation, bills, regulations and policy guidance) whilst overseeing consultation responses.
  • Establish strong working ties with political party legislative teams to ensure the charity remains an important stakeholder in shaping relevant legislation.
  • To perform horizon scanning activities and inform colleagues of relevant external legislative developments which may require action.
  • Maintaining a timeline of relevant legislative developments including consultations.  
  • Draft amendments, legislation, consultation responses written communications and briefings for internal and external use.
  • Collaborate with the charity’s Technical team to embed their insights and committee work into public affairs and policy strategies with a view to ensuring policy asks are backed by solid evidence.
  • Represent the charity at external conferences and events across the UK as agreed.

Skills and Experience

  • Ability to work autonomously and at pace within a legislative environment.
  • Strong written skills with an ability to tailor complex information to suit the requirements of a broad audience.
  • Able to use digital tools and collaborative technologies to convey information clearly.
  • Capability to analyse data for policy development and interpretation of statistical information.
  • Good working knowledge of Parliamentary procedure.
  • Skilled in developing strong stakeholder relationships.
