Policy and Research Assistant
The Opportunity

The opportunity:
Ellwood Atfield is delighted to have partnered with the Vegan Society, the oldest vegan organisation in the world, to recruit for a Policy and Research Assistant on a full-time, permanent basis.
This role offers a fantastic opportunity for those with passion about the health, environmental, and ethical benefits of veganism to advocate for this as part of the Society’s Campaigns, Policy and Research (CPR) department.
This role is fully-remote with expectation of occasional travel (inc. to London) for events purposes.
Key responsibilities:
- Monitor the political landscape and identify opportunities to raise The Vegan Society's concerns in the UK parliament and with national and local government and devolved administrations
- Update and manage the stakeholder database to ensure all interactions are logged accordingly
- Assist in organising meetings and conferences with stakeholders, booking meeting rooms including in Parliament and elsewhere, and researching potential speakers and topics and drafting invites
- Assist the policy team with tracking the progress of consultations
- Communicate their policy work including writing for publications, networking, and attending events
- Keep up to date with relevant reports, summarising them for the team, and using these to support campaigns
- Assist in the development of materials including copy for campaigns, consultation responses, engagement letters, invites, op-eds, articles and blogs
- Work with the policy and research teams to develop informed positions and briefings on key issues including: public sector institutions, food labelling, agricultural policy, and sustainability
- Assist with research tasks and planning for campaigns as required
- Provide administrative support for the wider team where relevant
- General office duties, including dealing with own correspondence and filing own documents
Attitudes, Values and Skills Required:
- A passion for, and adherence to, a vegan diet and lifestyle
- Previous experience directly working in a policy and/or research capacity is desired
- A relevant degree qualification or involvement in campaigning, political parties, or Parliament is desired
- Knowledge of vegan issues and the wider political landscape pertaining to these
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Must be based in the UK and have full working rights in the UK
