The opportunity
We have partnered with a leading trade body for the UK’s private capital industry. They advocate for the interests of their members to deepen understanding among external stakeholders and support the growth of private equity and venture capital across the UK economy.
The Public Affairs Manager will join the External Affairs Directorate, a team that brings together Public Affairs, Communications, Economic Strategy and Research. This senior role will shape and deliver the public affairs strategy, working closely with the Head of Public Affairs, colleagues across the organisation and their membership.
The role
This role is responsible for devising and delivering effective political engagement strategies, strengthening the organisation’s relationships with policymakers and providing expert political insights to guide the organisation. Reporting to the Head of Public Affairs, you will line-manage two team members, oversee the organisation’s flagship MP Connect programme and play a visible role representing the organisation to members and external audiences.
Main responsibilities
- Build relationships with MPs, committees, APPGs and government officials, producing high quality advocacy materials including select committee responses and policy briefings, alongside organising parliamentary events
- Deliver targeted communications, facilitate engagement opportunities and support policy-related events to enhance member retention and involvement
- Monitor the political and legislative agenda, providing timely advice to colleagues and members; also responsible for drafting and reviewing written evidence, consultation responses, speeches and reports
- Oversight of political engagement at events, including agendas, speakers and framing.
- Overseeing production of reports, briefings and political communications for external audiences.
Key skills and experience required
- Knowledge of political and current affairs, ideally with a background working in trade associations or the financial sector with a proven ability to translate complex policy into accessible communications
- Strong understanding of UK government and parliamentary procedures
- Experience managing member communications, delivering targeted briefings, facilitating engagement opportunities and supporting on various policy-related events
- Experience influencing government and shaping policy in a public affairs role
- Ability to develop political narratives based on detailed policy positions
- Sound political judgement with a political and strategic insights.
