The opportunity
Our client is the voice of the electric vehicle (EV) charging sector - our members are the companies that install and operate the charge points enabling the UK's transition to EVs and net zero, as well as other organisations across the charging sector.
We are looking for a public affairs professional to help develop and execute our political engagement strategy, working as part of our small but growing team to advance the policy priorities that will enable the UK's charging infrastructure rollout.
This role will report to the Head of Policy and Public Affairs and offers the opportunity to help drive our parliamentary and political engagement within a dynamic and influential organisation.
The individual will have the opportunity to build relationships across Westminster, Whitehall, and the devolved administrations, representing a rapidly growing sector at a critical time for UK climate policy.
Role
- Support the design and execution of our client’s public affairs strategy, developing campaign plans and approaches to support key policy objectives
- Manage our client’s parliamentary engagement programme, including briefing MPs and peers, arranging meetings, and coordinating Select Committee engagement.
- Build and maintain relationships with key political stakeholders, including MPs, peers, and political advisers across relevant government departments.
- Manage relationships with our external public affairs consultancy and political monitoring provider, ensuring effective translation of political intelligence into actionable insights.
- Plan and coordinate high-level meetings and events, including roundtables, receptions, and stakeholder briefings.
- Produce high-quality political briefings, parliamentary materials, and campaign documents tailored for different political audiences.
- Coordinate with the communications team to ensure alignment between political messaging and broader external communications.
- Identify and develop partnerships with allied organisations, think tanks, and campaign groups to amplify our client’s political influence.
Personal specification
- Proven experience in public affairs, government relations, or political engagement, gained in-house, via a consultancy, or through direct political experience.
- Strong understanding of the UK political system, including Westminster processes, government decision-making, and stakeholder dynamics.
- Experience of campaign planning and execution, with ability to think strategically about political timing, messaging and approach.
- Excellent political judgment and stakeholder management skills, with ability to navigate complex political environments.
- Outstanding communication skills - able to distil complex policy issues into compelling political narratives and briefings.
- Experience of engaging with politicians, civil servants, and senior decision-makers in a professional capacity.
- Knowledge of energy, infrastructure, transport, or environment policy areas preferred; willingness to quickly develop expertise in EV charging sector essential.
- Strong project management skills with ability to coordinate multiple workstreams and external relationships.
- Entrepreneurial mindset - comfortable building political engagement programme from a strong foundation in a growing organisation.
- Discretion and integrity in handling sensitive political and commercial information.
Benefits
- Salary £45,000 - £50,000
- Initially home-based, with regular meetings in London (including Westminster) and elsewhere in the UK as required. Option to use members' office space when needed and regular in-person meet-ups with the team.
