Senior Economist
The Opportunity
The Organisation
Our client is an agile, entrepreneurial public affairs consultancy known for its sharp commercial focus and flexible approach to work. With a growing portfolio and a team that thrives on autonomy, they offer an environment that is genuinely modern: remote-first, part-time-friendly, and outcome-driven.
This is a team built on trust, pace, and commercial instinct, delivering political and reputational impact for clients. As they enter their next phase of growth, they’re looking to bring in a senior specialist with a deep understanding of how data, economics, and policy intersect.
The Opportunity
This is a standout opportunity for a commercially minded Senior Economist to play a leading role in expanding the firm’s economics and public policy offer. You’ll take ownership of identifying new opportunities, building relationships, and delivering high-quality, insight-driven work across sectors like financial services, tech, and infrastructure.
In addition to generating and converting new business, often from a cold start, you’ll lead analytical projects spanning economic appraisal, investment case development, policy evaluation, and strategic modelling. You’ll work closely with a multidisciplinary team of strategists and public affairs specialists, and help position the economics practice as a visible, credible force in the market.
This role is ideal for someone who blends deep economic expertise with a commercial mindset, and who values flexibility, autonomy, and the chance to shape something new.
Main Responsibilities
- Identify, pursue, and convert new business opportunities across public and private sectors, including cold lead generation.
- Shape and deliver high-quality economics projects, from Green Book–compliant appraisals to five-case investment strategies and regulatory analysis.
- Lead the development of bespoke economic models and policy evaluations across sectors such as financial services, tech, and infrastructure.
- Represent the economics function in pitches, thought leadership, and public forums — helping to build the external profile of the team.
- Collaborate with strategy, policy, and public affairs colleagues to deliver joined-up advisory work for clients
- Contribute to wider business growth by supporting commercial planning, internal knowledge-sharing, and service development.
- Add economic depth and analytical insight to major commissions, including public policy reports and private-sector strategies.
Skills and Experience
- Strong track record of delivering applied economics projects, ideally in a consultancy, policy, or regulatory setting.
- Strong commercial instincts and confidence in closing deals and winning work.
- Excellent communication skills: capable of translating complex economic concepts into clear, compelling narratives.
- Familiarity with public policy challenges, particularly in sectors such as financial services, tech, built environment or infrastructure.
- Strategic thinker with a proactive, entrepreneurial mindset and a desire to shape the future of the economics function.
- Comfortable working autonomously and flexibly.
Benefits
- Full flexibility: remote-first, part-time and non-linear working options.
- Transparent bonus structures tied to commercial performance.
- EMI scheme options.
- Private healthcare with family included.
- Exceptional further benefits around holiday, working abroad, and sabbaticals
