Exciting Policy and Public Affairs Manager opportunity at a reputable trade association

The Opportunity

Ellwood Atfield are working with a prestigious trade association in the life sciences sector who are looking for a Policy and Public Affairs Manager on a permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to the life sciences and investment community. Working closely with civil servants as well as CEOs and CFOs from member companies and key investors, you will devise a comprehensive advocacy and stakeholder engagement programme with the aim of securing investments in the next generation of medicines and bio technologies, tackling global challenges such as disease, hunger and climate change. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Regularly keep up to date with government and parliamentary announcements and activty related to innovation, investment, finance and tax issues relevant to life sciences SMEs and communicate to the policy and public affairs team.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, members and external consultants to develop sector positions on innovation, investment, finance and tax policies, and produce a strong evidence base to support advocacy.
  • Work with the Associate Director of Policy, Public Affairs and Investor Relations to support to developments of new policy initiatives to optimise investment in life sciences and biotech.
  • Support the work of the UK Government's Life Sciences Investment Envoy, working with civil servants to link government and organisation activities.
  • Create and oversee compelling engagement campaigns to influence political, civil service and financial services stakeholders.
  • Deliver a programme of events of behalf of the trade association, which increase investor's understanding and interest in the life sciences sector whilst providing networking opportunites for members with investors.

Essential Criteria

  • Excellent understanding of UK Government and Parliament and the life sciences and biotech industry; or investment, finance or tax.
  • Demonstrable communication skills, with an ability to grasp complex issues quickly and disperse information in an accessible fashion across a variety of audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a good track record of fostering strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Proven project management skills to drive projects from conception to output.
