The Opportunity

Ellwood Atfield is delighted to be partnering with Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK)to appoint a talented and impactful Policy Manager to join their highly respected Policy, Public Affairs and Campaigns Team.
This appointment comes at a crucial moment for dementia research and care. ARUK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity, and the Policy Manager will playa pivotal role in shaping the organisation’s policy agenda and driving meaningful change for the millions of people affected by dementia.
The Opportunity
In this influential role, the Policy Manager will help define strategic policy priorities, champion innovation, and support research breakthroughs that can transform lives. Bringing strong policy expertise, analytical capability, and advocacy experience, the successful candidate will contribute to initiatives that influence government decision-making, public health priorities and long-term research funding.
They will work collaboratively with a broad network of stakeholders—including policymakers, researchers, clinicians and people with lived experience of dementia—to strengthen the case for greater investment in dementia research and care. The role will also support efforts to improve diagnostic pathways, clinical practice and healthcare system readiness as new dementia therapies emerge.
About the Role
Policy Development
- Lead strategic policy programmes, positioning ARUK as an influential national and international voice.
- Provide analysis to develop innovative, priority-aligned policy solutions.
- Oversee production of impactful outputs—briefings, reports, and submissions to government and parliamentary bodies.
- Ensure policy work reaches target audiences effectively in collaboration with Policy Communications.
- Maintain awareness of the wider policy environment and manage complex projects, delegating to Policy Advisors.
- Promote coherence and knowledge sharing across projects and the team.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships across the policy landscape.
- Champion patient and public involvement in policy development.
- Strengthen ARUK’s ties with political and parliamentary stakeholders through Public Affairs.
- Represent ARUK externally and foster strategic partnerships.
- Collaborate with sector peers to shape medical research policy.
Research & Data Analysis
- Oversee evidence analysis, ensuring accurate, timely, and insightful policy materials.
Line Management
- Lead and develop two Policy Advisors through coaching and performance management.
- Support team development and a culture of excellence.
