The Opportunity

The organisation

ChargeUK is the voice of the electric vehicle charging sector, representing the organisations installing and operating charge points across the country. Our work is central to the UK’s transition to net zero and to ensuring that the charging network grows at pace with rapidly increasing EV adoption.

The opportunity

The Public Affairs Manager will strengthen our political engagement at a time of significant policy focus following last week’s Budget, which included measures affecting energy costs, public charging affordability and infrastructure rollout. You will help ensure that the sector’s priorities are understood across Westminster, Whitehall and the devolved administrations, shaping debate on the future of the UK’s charging network.

Main responsibilities

  • Deliver ChargeUK’s public affairs strategy and develop targeted campaign plans.
  • Lead parliamentary engagement, including briefings, meetings and Select Committee activity.
  • Build strong relationships with MPs, peers and advisers across relevant departments
  • Translate political developments, including Budget measures affecting charging costs and investment, into clear insights and actions.
  • Coordinate high-level meetings and events, ensuring alignment with wider communications.

Key skills and experience required

  • Experience in public affairs, government relations, parliamentary and political engagement.
  • Strong understanding of the UK political landscape and parliamentary processes.
  • Ability to design and deliver effective political campaigns.
  • Confident managing relationships with senior political and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of energy, infrastructure, transport or environment policy, or ability to develop this quickly.
