The New West End Company is recruiting a Director of External Affairs to join their team.

As the Director of External Affairs you will be responsible for:

  • Provide strategic leadership to the external affairs team and carry out regular one to ones and appraisals with all direct reports, ensuring they have clear objectives and development opportunities.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with members and partners, deputising for the Chief Executive where appropriate.
  • Coordinate the management of multiple agencies across corporate, media, consumer, insights and public affairs.
  • Oversee the lobbying for policies that are adopted at local, London and national level that drive long-term economic growth in the West End.
  • Manage the external affairs budget in line with the strategic plan. Play a key role in developing the communications plan to support and deliver the Company’s objectives as set out in the strategic plan.
  • Lead on all day to day matters for corporate communications, including media relations, public affairs, insights and stakeholder management on business and retail issues affecting members.

Required skills and experience include:

  • The capability and commitment to operate corporately as a member of the top team.
  • Excellent leadership skills, including the ability to communicate ideas in a way that builds trust and enthusiasm.
  • Budget and team management skills operating at senior leadership team level
  • Previous experience of leading a busy and high profile communications function.
  • A successful track record of achievement in developing and implementing highly effective corporate communications, media and stakeholder relations and public affairs campaigns.
  • Management experience with the ability to create team spirit and provide clear direction, empowering others to achieve results.
  • Excellent copywriting skills with the proven ability to communicate confidently and clearly to a variety of audiences.
