The Organisation:

Westminster Abbey, a royal church offering daily services for all and a World Heritage Site with over a thousand years of history, is seeking an experienced and strategic individual to join our Communications and Digital team as Internal Communications Manager. The successful candidate will collaboratively develop and implement a new internal communications plan, aligned with the Abbey's broader strategy and priorities.

The Opportunity: 

As the Internal Communications Manager, you will collaborate closely with Abbey teams, particularly Communications & Digital HR, and Engagement, to bring this plan to life. You will leverage various digital and print channels, including the intranet, email, and newsletters, alongside in person activities, to ensure clear communication of the Abbey’s priorities, ambitions and strategy.  From this work, their 300 colleagues and 260 volunteers will feel informed, engaged and motivated by the breadth of the Abbey’s activities.

Main responsibilities:

  • Intranet Management: Leading the review and optimisation for 300+ staff and volunteers. Enhancing usability and expand functionality for streamlined internal communication.
  • Content Creation: Crafting compelling articles, stories, and visuals, ensuring clarity, resonance, and alignment with Abbey's identity and initiatives.
  • Internal Communications Strategy: Collaborating on calendar aligned with organisational goals and keeping staff informed, motivated, and engaged.
  • Digital Engagement: Drive Digital Abbey initiative. Utilisung online platforms to extend Abbey's reach globally and foster active participation.

Experience Required: 

  • Internal or External communications required with the ability the work across disciplines to pick up new skills.
  • Demonstrated track record in leading internal communications within complex organisations, preferably high-profile institutions.
  • Experience collaborating with senior stakeholders and writing clear information to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to research and craft captivating stories tailored to internal audiences.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication across various platforms, including digital and print initiatives, to effectively engage a wide and diverse staff and volunteer base.
