STEP is seeking a Director of Policy to lead its work with policymakers and regulatory authorities.

About STEP

STEP is the worldwide professional association for practitioners dealing with family inheritance and succession planning. The Society helps to improve public understanding of the issues families face in this area and promotes education and high professional standards among its members.

STEP has 20,000 members across 80 jurisdictions from a broad range of professional backgrounds, including lawyers, accountants, trust specialists and other practitioners in this area. STEP members help families plan for their futures, specialising in a wide range of activities, from drafting a relatively simple will to more complex issues surrounding international families, protection of the vulnerable, family businesses and philanthropic giving.
 

The position

STEP works closely with policymakers and regulatory authorities across the world to examine the likely impact on families of policy proposals and to develop guidance and support. The previous Director of Policy has now been appointed as CEO of STEP. It is therefore seeking a new Director of Policy to lead its work in this important area for the organisation
.

Main responsibilities include:

The Director of Policy acts as an ambassador for STEP engaging with, and representing STEP’s agreed policy position to a range of senior internal and external stakeholders. They work closely with senior STEP members to develop STEP’s approach to policy issues, taking responsibility for the development and delivery of comprehensive and effective campaigns and lobbying strategies.
As a member of STEP’s senior management team, the Director of Policy will also input into the development and delivery of STEP’s broader strategic objectives.
 

Required skills and experience include:

  • Proven track record of engaging with, and influencing, both internal and external stakeholders at a senior level.
  • A knowledge and understanding of how public policy is determined and influenced is essential to the role.
  • Experience in the finance, tax, law or accounting fields.
  • An ability to quickly command often complex and technical briefs.
  • Understanding of the issues facing international professional bodies would also be advantageous.
