The award-winning NSPCC Communications team is known for its talent, expertise and creativity in inspiring and challenging people to act on child abuse.

The Media Relations Manager reports into the Head of Media and PR and sits on the senior press leadership team.

Responsibilities include: 

  • To work with the Head of Media and PR to develop media strategies, plans and campaigns that deliver on organisational objectives through the regional and national lens.
  • To identify potential opportunities to increase the NSPCC’s media profile regionally  and deliver on them.
  • To offer media advice and insight to senior members of the NSPCC team, particularly on the implications of national news stories.
  • To develop and manage key stakeholder relationships both internal and external.
  • To play a key role in ensuring that all communication on behalf of the NSPCC is of an appropriate high standard, consistent with NSPCC’s brand and key messages.
  • To have delegated responsibility for the team’s budgetary performance and business results.

Knowledge and experience:
Essential

  • Substantial experience of success in a fast paced national press office or equivalent in the corporate, charitable or political sector.
  • Experience of developing and delivering comprehensive media strategies and complex media campaigns across a range of platforms for a range of audiences.
  • Experience of successfully developing and managing effective working relationships with internal and external senior stakeholders including senior journalists, broadcasters and editors.
  • Highly developed and proven creative skills to lead a significant communications team with flair, innovation and new ideas.
  • Highly developed verbal and written skills commensurate with leading a significant Communications team and oral skills to promote and present the team, and, as required, the Communications function and the NSPCC itself effectively.
  • Requires leadership excellence in skills and understanding of national media relations issues appropriate to the development and management of a major UK brand organisation.
  • Broad grasp of media and political context and full understanding of all media disciplines and external media environment and experience in crisis communications.
  • Proven journalism skills in order to convey written and verbal information, including progress reports and project updates in an engaging way.
